On Friday I must leave you so I penned a little rhyme Gonna take me a vacation, think I'll have a real good time I'm off on holiday, and so to England I must go Cause my stash of British chocolate, well it's getting mighty low I've no doubt there'll be a pub or two in which I may imbibe Cause England isn't England, without a drink or five A poet here called Arthur told me of a pub to see It sits upon an island in the town of Tewkesbury He told me I must jump and wave, down upon the shore They'll send a boat to get me, so I can drink their store Got to have some cider - think I'll make it that Scrumpee I really like that tipple, though it takes its toll on me I'll go on down to Malvern cause that place is pretty swell And I do like the pub there, the one they call Blue Bell I shall smoke and drink my fill, until my my heart is quite content Or at least I can until I find my head hits the pavement I don't drink beer, not all the time - I'll have some fizzy lemon And if you add some Advocaat, I'll feel like I'm in heaven And if I find as always that it should begin to rain That won't bother me - I'l nip back in the pub again Now my friends you may think drinking is the only thing I'll do That isn't true for I shall see a relative or two Uncle Tommy's pretty neat although his nose is pretty red I think it got that way when all the beer went to his head Now I can drink my share of beer, but from him I must recover He bought so many pints last time, I even had leftovers And Uncle Paddy in his youth - well he was quite a lout His gang they stole some fridges which they stashed at Grandmas house I'll go and see my Auntie Kath - now her I sure do love Honest, it's just coincidence she lives so near a pub I'm taking my old dad although he does not drink like me I hope I can convince him he should be my own DD Birmingham my hometown is the King of "King of Curry" Though after having eaten one, my tummy sure feels funny I'm gonna have alot of fun - a right good time I'll give 'er But on my organ doner card - better scratch that box for liver My friends I sure will miss you because Passions I won't get Unless I find a little pub hooked up with internet Flying's pretty good these days - I've got it all down pat But oh my God, my ticket says I'm booked on AIR TRANSAT [This message has been edited by Tracey (edited 09-05-2001).] |

Tracey, the minute I read the title of your poem I knew I had to read it. What a wonderful piece of writing you have penned and how much I could relate. As you know, us Aussies love our pubs too and I reckon we are so very similar in many ways to the Brits in our sense of humour and our love for having a good time. If ever you come "down under" I can surely recommend lots of grouse pubs for you to visit. Have a fabulous holiday. (I have been to England 3 times now and just love it and the people and I hope to see more of it one day). Take care......Sue Suetang |

Great poem *S* have a good time, but remember you don't buy beer you only rent it for a short time. Death comes not when we cease to breathe, but when we cease to dream. |

And dont forget the NEW INN IN Gloucester Well it was new in 1310 A beautiful old court yard pub with a gallery so that the nobs didnt have to mix with the mountebanks and cut purses in the yard .And on whose steps poor Lady Jane Grey was proclaimed Queen, only to be beheaded shortly after .She was 17.You never know i might just be leaning against the bar next to you.(It was the dog wasnt it?) And Its a lovely merry and funny quirky poem.just like you Arthur |

Thank you all for the good wishes. Suetang - should I ever make it "down under", I shall certainly expect some pub recomendations Enchantress - I certainly hope Arthur did give me the right directions. I'll be looking for an internet cafe to hound him online if he did not Alan - thanks. I'm sure I will have lots of fun Balladeer - enjoy your brew. Funny how ALL the girls look mighty pretty after about 10 of them. Duncan - yes. A cab is a good idea Rusty - how true, I've rented many a beer in my time. I always wonder when going through customs whether I need to declare the beer that I'm going to deposit on their soil Arthur - yes I will be trying out the New Inn in Gloucester. Didn't put a mention of it in the rhyme, because I couldn't mention all of the pubs I shall see. People round here might think I only think about drinking !!! James - I certainly will have a good time. Thank you If she who dies with the most toys wins, then can I have some toy boys please? |

LOL, thanks for the grins this morning Tracey! My parents are heading over to Cornwall shortly to visit all our relatives, and they'll be heading over on Air Traansat too. Take care, and watch for the bobbies! Best wishes, /Kit [This message has been edited by Kit McCallum (edited 09-06-2001).] |

This was such fun to read and brought back many happy memories because I am originally from England , although I have not been back for years and yes there is nothing quite like the good old English pub Hope |

Kit - Glad you enjoyed it. I'll be watching out for the bobbies all right. They can't catch me, no I'm too fast !!!! Hope - glad it brought back memories. I'm originally from England too. You have to get back there..You're right..nothing like an English pub. I often toy with the idea of moving back (but the houses are so damn expensive now) If she who dies with the most toys wins, then can I have some toy boys please? |

Tracey! At last! A gal who doesn't write about love! Well, maybe doesn't. I noticed you have a deep (and respectful) love for pubs. I guess I can forgive ya for that - lol. Have a wonderful, fantastic, memorable trip. I love your poem. |

Have a Good Time ~~~ You're lying there upon the bed with bloodshot eyes and a throbbing head The morning has to your surprize erraced the night before ~ You feel so bad you cannot eat you can't get up upon your feet You've never felt this bad before you toss your gut upon the floor ~ Your body aches your knees are weak your tongue's too thick to even speak Your lips curl up you start to smile You must have had a good time |
