Iambe has been gone for weeks And she still lingers in my mind Like the after taste of too much garlic, It makes you thirsty, and nothing seems to satisfy. I passed the Red day back And just inside New Mexico the old truck Decided it too was thirsty, so I pulled over In Las Madre to get her a drink. Not much in Las Madre, A station with two pumps A grocery with 4 aisles And a bar with 8 stools, 6 tables, and a bartender old enough to have known Sam Houston personally. Still the beer was cold and it helped Get the taste out of my mind for a while. I guess I wasn’t looking, because she walked in And I didn’t even notice her until she got to the bar And asked the ancient one for a cold Miller. Her eyes were black. Not the kind of black you think about usually But a grey speckled black that seemed to change When she turned her head. I saw her bosom swell under the faded blue shirt When she breathed, and I remembered I had been alone Now for what seemed like months. I started to talk to her, But thought of Iambe and decided that replacing The garlic memories and after taste with jalapenos Was probably not for the best. The old truck and me Pointed our noses north for a while |

Sometimes even Jalapenos won't dispel the taste of garlic - garlic permeates more... so good to see even thoughts of Iambe come back to the boards.... well done, Sir! |

speaking of replacing Iambe...I know you can't do that..BUT...I LOST THE POEMS YOU SENT AND WANT THEM BACK!!!! Would ya mind sending them again? Purty Please? I have grown quite fond of her too. I think we shot pool together once in a roadhouse in Mississippi. She beat the tar out of me too! |

Okay, your poem was wonderful, Ron. But forgive me by being sidetracked by Sen. She needs to write that roadhouse pool poem! Anyway... Yes. I like the subtle mix of tastes and wastes. |
