The Truck Stop Waitress brings wads of ones With her bouffant hairdo and bubble gum chaw Never failing to tell me about her dates She smiles through the stucco smoothing her face I smile back The Business Man In three pieces he stands His money clip shining, always a hundred dollar bill No receipt...No evidence for his wife might find out He smiles with his tongue clicking wink and smirk I smile back The Crippled Man hobbles in dragging a stiff leg He pays like clockwork due to his disability check Never late. Never shamed in his trying, his pride He smiles and always tells me to keep the change I smile back The Debutante with immaculent hair, skin, nails Always paying the late fee proudly clad in diamonds Expensive perfume wafts the room and her money She smiles the million dollar vegas winning smile I smile back The Grandmother haggard and torn she is timely Little Johnny's Johnny got sick, she is raising five Alone on her Quilting money with arthritic fingers She smiles alive for one more seam, one more day I smile back The Young Man an aspiring novel writer He showed me the ring he was giving in proposal She said yes, I don't think they've come up for air He smiles and nods in blushing timid fashion I smile back All walks, all deserving of a gentle smile Without them I wouldn't have a cent worth Of greeting for the one who takes my money |

This was absolutely fantastic, back to the top I hope it goes, as there is a lot of wisdom in your words, and of course, your smile ~*Homepage*~ http://www.mysteria-poetry.cityslide.com/contents/contents.cfm/722155 |
