Down here in the deep South we want you folks to know it's a cotton picking pleasure to have none of that snow Our snowballs grow on bushes in the heat of the noonday sun The fabric of our lives is getting that picking done In 1793 Eli Whitney invented a tool 'cause he saw a need to quickly separate the cotton ball from the seed Come on down to the friendly South where we boast and claim Our 'snow balls' ain't freezing cause we keep 'em in The Cotton Ball Hall of Fame *Dedicated to my little 'cotton-pickin' friend, Vicky~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ |

Of all the 'cotton pickin' pleasures in the south (and there are sooooo many), I never met a person who got pleasure from pickin' cotton, including my Aunts, Uncles, and Mom. But Ya'll can keep that 'cotton pickin' snow up above the Mason Dixon Line. Lovely poem, thanks for sharing. |

When I was old enough to follow my mom in the cotten fields she made me a bag out of a flour sack.I would load up my bag and put it in my mom's bag.I never got tired of picking cotten but I could see how mom's big bag cut into her shoulder.Hand picking cotten is one of lifes back breaking chores. The only thing worse is chopping down cotten plants with a hoe.You did not mention wasps, broiling sun and getting your fingers bloody on the sharp boll husks. paladin |

Well dab my sore nubs with fluff - never picked it myself, but tomatoes and melons aren't easy either. Although, it was made harder by eating them as you go - tummy swelled and sloshed pretty bad and all you wanted was a Tree...for multiple reasons. Nice write Marge - didn't pick it but remember the fields and the labourers well. jwesley |

Marge- Now, you know I LOVE what you've done with this cotton pickin' piece. Love the history you threw in there too. I knew there was a reason why I just had to send this picture to you and your muses, and now I know why...yep...it was definitely meant for serenity. serenity...big hugs to you, sweet friend. Even though I am knee deep in snow in the winter in Alaska, I actually have had the pleasure(?) of pickin and jumpin on those ol cotton bolls, and remember the nasty scratches on my fingers. I loved this poem! |
