I lay, surrounded by dry brittle grass, arms outstretched, welcoming the peace of my surroundings. A tree to the right of my view holds my attention with its flickering leaves; nature's clapping. A flash of orange comes into the picture as the wind catches a black-eyed susan to my left. A quiet buzzing reminds me that I am not truly alone, and a I close my eyes to better hear the sounds. I can hear the silent clicking of all the dry blades around me, and a dragonfly flitting by tells me that this is nature's footsteps. I open my eyes then and stare into the face of my furry feline companion. There is pleasure in his eyes, and when I get up to go back home he rubs along my legs as if to say, "going so soon?" and I promise myself to come back again tomorrow. |
