Time for Bed Virginia Salter It’s time to go to bed the cat is pleading Her eyes are big and sad my heart is bleeding She plies me with her writhing around and through my legs she climbs half up my frame her mewing cries to beg Then taps me on the shoulder with four nails extended Down again to move to grab my leg two-handed Pacing to and fro forward and aft So sadly she does go surely thinks I’m daft To spend so much time in front of this keyboard Typing forms of poesy ‘bout kitties and the Lord. © July 24, 2000 |

You're a CAT MAN???? I don't recall seeing them in your poetry...how can you be a cat man and not let them in? hmmmmmmm, I know another Ron on another board that does write cat poetry, marverlously, is it you in disguise? |

Nope.. not me VAS. I have written cat poetry...The owl is back… Closer now, It seems to sit in the barn Just a few yards from the house. It's mournful hoots Lie upon the stillness Like the thin crescent moon That rests now on the horizon. It's been two days… And I am reminded of the stories Told by an old man I knew Of the owl being the spirit of Those who have left us. Two days… Since I built the little box And we dug in earth, that Seemed as reluctant to yield To our efforts, as we were to Let her go. We placed her inside And fastened the lid tightly, Put her in the space between Two trees and with tears.. Covered her. |

and a heartbreaing one at that, beautiful I have to say, unless you'd told me, I'd not known it was about a cat...though that may make it a more versatile poem, for whoever has mourned can feel again the memory of that final step, maybe not pleasant, but still a little niche toward healing, for it wells up love again |

VAS... there are actually several of my poems which have been inspired by my animals..but they are or I try to write them in a more universal way..because the lessons they teach or help me understand apply to more than just my relationship with them... |
