It is a time of innocence, secrets A time when the horse drawn carriage Was hollowed out for lovers Oil lamps provided just the right light To enhance the shape of your lovers face Lips were clean, skin was rose watered Men held their breath at the sight of ankles To glimpse the tender whiteness was bliss They held the gloved hand and kissed through Hoping to warm her heart for himself They stole moments of kisses, sweetly Fearing for the dishonor of chastity They kept the message plate full Of love letters, scented and wax sealed Searing for the addressee's hand Invitations were eagerly accepted For the slight chance to dance with heaven Blushing, dainty ladies hid beneath layers Of crinoline and posies placed just so Men swooned with strength and poise And charmed with words of beseeching love Once love took hold, they simply clung To the moment their breath was taken By the sashay of hips, The scent of lavender Whisking them to their knees, buckled soft And found a way, a place, a time of secret And tenderly explored the fever of desire |

Awesome, R, I want to go back there..you know how you just feel that a time was more right for you? This is the one, without doubt. You wrote this so well, beautiful images, if only they could be found in this century. Sandra |

Sounds like you have a firm grasp on what is missing in so much of society today. I truely enjoyed the read and I do so love it when a poem flows as flawlessly as this. I will be looking for more of your works. |

Very well written, it took me back in time, to a seemingly more romantic time. Throw your heart out in front of you |

R, How incredibly lovely and enchanting...I so much desire to have that Victorian-esque world back again. That era was true romance in all its glory, the way it should be, and I think the way alot of woman dreamt it would be... I really loved this! Elise |

RWood~ Ohhhhh, that Victorian Age of romance, of lace handkerchiefs dropped in the notion that hearts would be set to fluttering~ Beautifully written~ I so enjoy how you paint a scene~ ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ |

You are a true romantic indeed Regina, those times were ones surely of romance and wonderment, of hidden desires and secret meetings. Where the men had valour and assumed respect. A little like Cinderella and the ball, the carriage and the horsemen, a lovely story time, a lovely write. Rick. You've a mind full of dreams. |

Flowing like a silken dress with semi-transparent ornamentation... a beautiful, teleporting write, Regina... for a moment, I was there... -MVS "When you tell the Truth, you never have to remember what you just said." |

MEM: I'm so glad I lead you to that place. I dream of it always. Thanks for joining me if for just a moment. Sven: Good for you! We have to grasp the present and sometimes meld it with the past to make it our own. Thanks for reading! Rick: You mentioned one of my favs here. Cinderella. Not for the prince and all, but the transformation, and grace of the act itself. You are a wonderful inspiration! Mark: What a beautiful commentary. That could be a poem in itself. Thanks for visiting and joining my trip back in time! |
