I was glad I was to be your little girl We would have had so much fun playing Barbie dolls and sewing dresses But you frowned deeply when you saw the colours change Why, mummy, why didn't you welcome me? I was looking forward to meeting Dad A tall strong kindly figure he would be, bringing me to the zoo and teaching me baseball But you sobbed as you confided in Granny that Daddy was irresponsible and had abandoned us What, mummy, does "irresponsible" and "abandoned" mean? I kicked you playfully the other day Giggling, I squealed in delight I thought we would have a nice game of touch-a-boo But you yelled loudly and your hands pounded heavily on my delicate body Why, mummy, why did you play so rough? I was bubbling in excitement I was growing bigger by the day Soon, I would be able to see your lovely face But you put enormous tapes, hurting me so So that your bulge wouldn't show Why, mummy, why weren't you proud of me? I see white angels before me I wriggle my little fingers, delighted that you have asked them to play with me But they all look so stern and fierce Now, they are even cutting me up with sharp knives Why, mummy, why do you put me through such pain? I hear your heart-wrenching sniffles I hear Granny trying to cajole you to "eat a little" I long to go over and comfort you But everything seems so dark around here I struggle to crawl towards you, however I trip and fall Why, mummy, why have things turned out to be this dismal? |

"I see white angels before me I wriggle my little fingers, delighted that you have asked them to play with me but they all look so stern and fierce Now, they are even cutting me up with sharp knives" What profound, haunting images - yet, so sadly true. Very powerful! Sighs, the impact this poem has on me cannot be described. This is very moving and disturbingly perfect. I used to be totally against abortion, I was disgusted with any woman who could murder a human life, and this poem certainly supports my view. But, over the years, I've become "Switzerland" and I try my best to understand both views. Although I would never ever get an abortion, I can understand why a rape victim would get one or if the doctor requests that the mother gets an abortion because the baby is ill, etc. Thank you for re-posting it ![]() Melissa~ |

thank you for your very ego-boosting comments, cpalmer and melissa melissa, i believe strongly that life itself is the most important gift that one can have and no one should ever be denied a chance to explore life. i embrace life, am constantly seeking ways to enrich my experiences and outlook and simply don't understand how someone can abort her child because it came "untimely"?? of course, as you so rightly pointed out, there are other factors to consider too and i shouldn't be judgemental... i'm flattered to realise that this musing had such an impact on you. a million thanks for letting me know... ![]() |

This is much more than a musing, Kaile. It is a powerful perspective from the viewpoint of the victim of this scenario. I had written something long ago about the thoughts of a dog who was being led to a gassing room at the pound due to a shortage of space, the happy, bubbly nature of the puppy, the willingness to love and the hope to be loved and given a good home. Of course one does not compare dogs and humans even when both are only asking for a chance at life but one wonders how our thoughts may change if we were able to see it from the other side. This is an excellent piece of writing that you have the right to be very proud of.... ![]() |

Abortion is a terrible thing that should never happen. Which then again is my personal opinion. This is really well written. And on a subject that I have strong feelings about. Good job. Freedom is not Free (Korean War memorial) |

This is a critical issue in our world and you brought it right to the razor edge of death. Which is what abortion is, the death of the child. I judge not, nor would I take someones rights from them. But call it like it is. And educate. Very brave and calling piece. Sincerely, Regina |

This is an excellent poem written on a touchy subject. Abortion is wrong. Throw your heart out in front of you |
