Friend If I have made one cherished friend When days are short near journey’s end I will consider this my prize The day I close my weary eyes If I can count on promised deed And call a friend in time of need And praise his joy and his success In heartfelt equal happiness If he has spoken well of me With honor and with dignity The graciousness will be returned In friendship that we both have earned Then this one friend is truly worth More than the gold in veins of earth For friendship can enlighten days Enhancing life in many ways One friend’s worth more than all the souls Who shake your hand with hidden goals And hold deceit behind a smile While flashing words that would beguile A man who has a thousand friends Not one on whom he can depend In times of loss or fallen lot A single friendship - he has not Just one good friend is all it takes To sooth the shame of your mistakes To share your sorrow and your pain To shelter you from wind and rain A soul on whom you can depend To hear your words and comprehend Forgive your faults when you offend To be with you at journey's end And in embrace make new amends I leave it up to you, my friend Elizabeth Santos [This message has been edited by Elizabeth Santos (edited 07-30-2001).] |

A dear departed friend of mine told me that a lucky man can hope to have THREE true friends in his lifetime... 1) his mother... 2) his father 3) and ONE other - if he's really, really lucky... ... Nicely said, m'friend... |
