I pulled away that night,
When the words softly spilled from your lips,
I thought I was just another girl
So I ran,
As far as I could,
As fast as I could,
But this was different
Because you ran after me,
And left footprints in the dust behind me,
And in my heart

But then, you just couldn't run anymore
So you've moved on
And good for you, you deserve more than me
Better than me

But now I'm left with the echo of those three words
Empty, without the emotion they once held
And the still vivid path that you left within me

And I am finally ready to respond

"I love you too"

Ouch. God, I understand this.
My mother once comforted me with these words. "You are exactly where you are meant to be right now." And it's true, even though it's still going to sting for a while. Wonderful words here.

Wow, that was wonderful!!  The last line definitely hit me hard.  You did an amazing job with this, and I'm going to add it to my library.  Thanks for sharing!!!

Always,

Awwwww...This reminds me of that one commerical with the guy and the girl and she's all "I love you" but he doesn't respond and when he finally DOES respond she's already gone. That cracks me up.

This poem did not crack me up. It made me sad. *sighs* *hugs* There will be more fish..even though the sea's polluted...

p.s. -Love- the critique message!

Awesome! I know all too well the subject of this poem...
"Sometimes you need to run away to see who will follow you."
so true...

Have you ever heard that "No shirt, No shoes" rule? My question is...Why doesn't that rule include pants?
