I look at my father
see the tears in his eyes
he was born of strong roots
and that he cant disguise
I hear the fear in his voice
when he tells me not to fight
its better to be alive
than to be dead and right
I watch as my identity
gets taken away
I cant be who I am
I dont know what to say
I cant listen to my music
For its a foreign beat
Living here I guess, sometimes will get you beat
But I am still american
born and raised
Blended is my culture with the american ways
I mourn with america
as I mourn for over seas
I am proud to be american
As I am proud to be me
An Arab American
No matter what they say
Its who I am
and no one can take that away

I hate what I've heard about the way "arab americans" are being treated in some parts of the United States. It's truely horrible. They just can't let it turn into something like the Japanese interment camps and such in WWII. Not to worry you. The United States has come a long way since 1940 and I doubt anything like that would happen. Stay strong and everything will be ok

Jeez...this is one powerful piece. Definitely one for the library. There is so much depth and, well, power behind it. You delve into an area no one will touch and I commend you for it. You've pulled off an amazing poem here and this is going into my library.

Well done on this. I truly enjoyed the read.

Very well written. Quite the poem here. I fully enjoyed this one.

I was born myself, raised myself, and will continue to be myself. The world will just have to adjust.
