OLD WOMEN Sometimes old woman get a package from hell, that way deep down, most heinous of hells. Their spirits weary, no fight left in them, they bow to whatever power has called out their name. Sometimes it’s as simple as a man’s fist from out of nowhere, leaving her wondering why it is her jaw, her bones, her husband who she loves more than the breath busy in her old lungs. The more she wanders the more she wonders at the puzzling dilemma. And one day she goes beyond the borders of sanity without even noticing the Hazardous Territory sign. Old women take a lot of punishment. Stronger than a bar of steel is the back of an old woman. It is her heart that leaks and bleeds. Insanity is doing the same thing over and over, the pundits say. She just wanted to get it right. No fury flames in an old woman’s soul… just sad disappointment they vent with a sigh. Old women wander wearily, wearing no tomorrows, only aching yesterdays that they keep in their pocket, along with a fast food napkin and a bent penny. Yesterdays nest in a coven of denial. Mama was too drunk to say there would be days like this. She’s an old woman, too … bitter as gaul and evil as a stepped on snake. Old women accept that they weren’t wanted then…and they aren’t wanted now. They are just in the way, silent observers of humanity. Traveling through their own hours that are not ticked off on the clock of human intercourse. Purses that cost $100.00 are cheap to some, who hold such things dear. You can snag one at a Goodwill drop-box on about any night. Hairdos and makeup…old woman have faces written on by the quill of life, masterpieces. Old women take all that life has to dish out, eat with a rusty spoon, and endure. Old women endure. "A woman is like a tea bag, you never know how strong she is until she gets in hot water..." There has certainly been an increase of violence toward our elderly, and I fast aproach that description. An important point made herein. "I am not now that which I have been." |
