I stopped beside her table- “May I sit with you awhile? I’d sure like to know you better- I’m quite taken with your smile”. When she looked up from her paper- It was plain for me to see... She was really disappointed- At the things she saw in me. A man who’s crowding fifty, A good bit over-weight. A bit too hard around the mouth, A back, no longer straight. Scars upon my knuckles- From a lot of brawls, it’s true. But when you’re fat and fifty- What else is there to do? The days are gone forever- When I was in my prime. When I could make a shiney ride, That’s long before her time. My stories dwell on yesterday When I was young and free- And nothing in the universe Could burn a brand on me... I’m way too old to rodeo- And way too old to fight... When you’re fat and fifty... All a man can do is write. When you’re fat and fifty- All your best years are behind. Your dreams and schemes of yesterday Have faded from your mind. But that same old far-off longing... Still echoes in your mind. When you’re fat and fifty- A friend is hard to find. |

A friend doesn't judge you on age or size. You've got plenty of friends right here sir! |

Give me a man who's fat and fifty and I'll see a man who has sowed his wild oats and will enjoy an evening of talking and listening. Heck, Sir I've got one of those men and he's just the way I like em. In case my husband see's this, "No dear you are not fat". |

Same here old boy, join my club of fat and fifty (fiftysix to be right), but don't think the wrong way. If the lady only judged you by one glance, well Sir, she ain't worth a second look or from you. Your life has just begun mister, take that from an 'old and fat (am I really?) lady. Titia Your poem made me giggle, like it very much A rose is a rose is a rose...I guess... |

If you would be so gracious and grant your consent, I will e you with details. Thanks again, m'friend! and yep, into the library you go! |
