©2001 C.G. Ward it’s nights like these and songs like this one, which melts faces into names, into smiles, into memories… ‘Girls rock your boys - it’s getting wild, wild, wild, baby…’ innovative kisses and lakeside caressing where the freshwater waves weren’t alone as they rolled ‘cross the sandy shores of inexperience. it was there that Jennifer sprinkled chastity into my palm and breathed into my ears the wisdom of a seductive touch. I listened, I guess, but now I wonder how well. ‘My life, is better left to chance, I could have missed the pain…’ days of gregarious music and violent grade-b movies, hard rock bands and rock hard motives banging (heads not gangs) - and bending my teenage mind into a twisted pretzel of enthusiastic cataractal inebriation – Joanne, pressing her desire into the shape of eternal promise while I danced around the giggles of every nubile girl around, every one, that is, save her. ‘My heart’s out of the runnin’, true love scratched for another’s sake…’ round-up rodeos and carnival-like county fairs. sizzling summer heat and the cooler scorching nights where Rebecca caroused her fingers through my (then) long hair… stealing my wide brimmed hat and pirouetting through the crowd in nimble transience, and while it parted for her exuberance it seemed to hinder the soles of my dirty boots until I lost sight of her precious laughter, forever. ‘She cries and says she still loves him…’ then the jutting fountains of youth, placating the surface of passion. with a stolid lake and in stout companionship, Lisa grabbed my arm and pushed me in headlong into the waters of monogamy. I fell on purpose… I think, but still I floated on the brink of disbelief; a new twist here. the bells, the train… the walk, the angst. ‘forever after’ it seems, crashes down sometimes still youthful in appearance, but aged in heart. goodbye Lisa, goodbye. ‘I need you to need me, I’m beggin’ you to take me…’ June 21, the first of summer’s parading delights - conversing up a mountainside, the heights of challenge and communication bleating on the peaks of attraction and purpose… loving at the precipice of a bridge joining need with desperation. ‘Just let me be – so that, so that we can be together…’ could Carrie scream any louder in her silence, than I wept in mine? like boulders, we rolled into the depressive valley of cohabitation and wilted. shaded by each other, we wandered the path of the damned and emerged from the other side, alone. ‘Dust fills my eyes, Clouds roll by and I roll with them…’ a dream chased is a dream chaste… wonders fly and dreamers cry as the shards of destiny plummet through the gaps of good intentions. and just an inch from the canyon floor, a voice echoes with understanding; hope. emerging to meet the next catalyst to my esteem, I gasp a smile of ash and brine. who knows what tomorrow will place upon my ears… ‘Centuries cry, Orders fly and I fall again…’ Song Excerpts: ‘Girls rock your boys - it’s getting wild, wild, wild, baby…’ -Come on Feel the Noise Quiet Riot ‘My life, is better left to chance, I could have missed the pain…’ -The Dance Garth Brooks ‘My heart’s out of the runnin’, true love scratched for another’s sake…’ -The Race is On Sawyer Brown ‘She cries and says she still loves him…’ -Better Man Pearl Jam ‘I need you to need me, I’m beggin’ you to take me…’ -I Want you to Want Me Cheap Trick ‘Just let me be – so that, so that we can be together…’ -Dolphins Cry Live ‘Dust fills my eyes, Clouds roll by and I roll with them…’ ‘Centuries cry, Orders fly and I fall again…’ -Pull me Under Dream Theater |

Christopher...you made me cry...just the other day, I was lost in a song...taken back to where and when....smiling and crying at the same time.....this took me to so many places....( I know and love almost every song here) the rodeos of younger days....that cowboy I'll never forget...and never stop loving quietly in my memories.....*sigh* I need this in my library to read again and again......LOVED this one ![]() |

'a dream chased is a dream chaste' Well C, this line in particular speaks to me and I'm compelled to say that sometimes a dream left unexplored makes it more worthwhile to remember. Your writing has grown in the last few months. ![]() It is to do with tree-ferns: |

An interesting exploration of your past, and, perhaps, a glimpse into your future ... What leaps and bounds your writing has taken since I met you, my friend. May it (and you) continue to evolve -- hopefully enough to take down that godawful picture. ![]() Linda |

The poetry of pendulum frames and water nymphs needled a hole in my heart; bound a piece of it as well, and tied the fragment (warm and pounding) to your wrist. But how did you possess the ability to transport me out of my bias? I am amazed because you have written with strength and sentiment enough for me to review your poems and realize with wonder that I like this best. |

"innovative kisses and lakeside caressing where the freshwater waves weren’t alone as they rolled ‘cross the sandy shores of inexperience." "Lisa grabbed my arm and pushed me in headlong into the waters of monogamy. I fell on purpose… I think, but still I floated on the brink of disbelief; a new twist here." "could Carrie scream any louder in her silence, than I wept in mine? like boulders, we rolled into the depressive valley of cohabitation and wilted. shaded by each other, we wandered the path of the damned and emerged from the other side, alone." "a dream chased is a dream chaste… wonders fly and dreamers cry as the shards of destiny plummet through the gaps of good intentions." Superb Chris ... splendid phrasing throughout, with a wonderful lyrical quality that walks the reader through so many phases of one's life. The songs you chose for each era blended beautifully with the remembrances they held ... excellent Chris, very much enjoyed! ![]() Best wishes, /Kit |
