( A child in our state was killed by his terrible allergy to peanuts, from a deadly lunch, packed by his school lunchroom. He got rid of everything he thought had peanuts but the cookie had it hidden with no obvious signs. ) As dear and beloved as are yours and mine, A charming and happy nine-year old child. Stalked by a secretive crouching tiger, Hiding in his blood stream, fearsome and wild. It was just a little class-room picnic. Paper bags filled with a nourishing lunch. Their appetites were whetted by the outing. They were a young and active, hungry bunch. With eager anticipation they stopped, To enjoy the culinary delights. But this little child must examine his Carefully, before he takes any bites. Peanut butter sandwitch, given away. Trail mix! he dared not eat any of these, Leaving him nothing but a small cookie, His young, healthy appetite to appease. He took just one bite, all that was needed For the deadly crouching tiger within. His promising young life quickly ended, Before it had a fair chance to begin. There is plenty of blame to go around, Among parents, doctor and school. Someone was careless and he paid the price; For allowing the wild tiger to rule. Dear Joyce: We have been following this tragic story in the newspapers and on the TV news. Of course, it should never have happened, but someone, somewhere, was extrememly careless and this poor child paid the price. Your poem covers this story so well. Excellent job. Betty Lou Hebert |

Hello Joyce...very clever of you to use such a title with the movie being such a popular hit... and then you hit all between the eyes with a very timely message of how to take care of our children... I know from the work I do...you can never be TOO careful... you are a fine Shepherd....continue on in your watch, and be the vigilant that you are. We need this as a community, and a populace. Well done! |
