I feel like I've been gone so long...here's my post Memorial Day poem. No Longer a Child, Yet Virginia Salter as a child stripes of red and white waving greeting to this land brought a lump to my throat tears to my eyes forty-eight stars twinkled a reminder of its members as a proud people group would cheer salute and stand taller than tall to live here meant one was Judeo-Christian heritage loving of his neighbor free to walk the streets play in the parks pray in school enjoy moments of silence for the losses endured in common as a teen fifty stars twinkled sprinkled joy to inhabitants glory to this land tears in the wake of hearing voices raised to "Old Glory" seeking its continued bannered flight now past unpopular wars, hired soldiers, diversified peoples with graying values, fraying patriots, lying comrades still a tear ensues when a sometimes tattered flag waves over the city at full or half mast yet the lump is not as large nor the tears as prolific but the pain in my heart can be greater still than ever before and now, a woman, in a process of saging, the focus of my pledge lands fully upon the faith in those wonderful words "One nation, under God,..." may they remain as long as humanity has breath be understood as long as humanity has mind, heart, soul and may unity in His will ever be our goal May 29, 2001 [This message has been edited by VAS (edited 05-29-2001).] |

Beautiful tribute to the past and a real look at the change that has taken place as moral values continue to sag. Thanks for the well written reminder. |

Dear VAS, I'm so glad you pointed this out to me. Now I'm embarassed for having missed this. You have captured what many have thought. I have never lost my regard for the flag, having lived overseas in an unjust sytem of government. Thank you for this wonderful and well written piece. Liz |

Amen! Live for love. Without love, you don't live. |
