We the living take back our lives
To provide our own work solutions
From the cold, gray, state that we despise
Which promises no absolution

We the survivors gathering here
Collective, no more the tool
We take back our lives, to hold back the tears
We're no longer yoked by harsh rule

We the defeated, those beaten down
No longer, bow down to the name
That promised us freedom and hope of a crown
And we're refusing the blame

We the down trodden, despised and the maimed
Take back our lives new spirit is claimed

Those of us who refuse to risk and grow get swallowed up by life.  Patty Hansen.

poetry inspired by Ayn Rand, and a name inspired by Mercedes Lackey.... you have broad literary tastes, which serve you well in your verse... great write! i'm looking forward to more

Paula,
thank you dear. It's Done and done! I always appreciate your suggestions.

NCC,
Thank you, the poem wasn't exactly inspired by Ayn Rand only the title, it sort of grew like Topsy once I had begun it. I have another one called Saccharine Citizens that goes nowhere near her philosophy, but I liked the phrase. As for the reading, I'm no longer reading medical journals unless they have interesting articles but that's where I draw the line in reading matter. lol.

Wow, Fantastic!!! That's exactly what He wants us to do!  Take back our lives and trust Him, His love, His power to protect them and exemplify them to who we are to truly become.

Ayn Rand indeed Kethry. . .

this belongs on a statue or a card somewhere. . . it reads like a creed. . . and so should it be. . .

well done. . .

this brought back a saying that was pinned up on my mother's corkboard over 23 years ago, I don't know the author but it stuck in my head well, because she was a smart lady and I knew if she had it up, it meant something.

"We the willing, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have done so much with so little for so long, we are now qualified to do anything with nothing."

Your poem's a nice change.

passing shadows,
I have heard that saying,it's a mutilated version of something else, but I like it anyway It sort of describes me and poetry so thank you for that.

Temptress,
I was aiming for a chant, I think I missed it by "that much".lol.

Kethry dearest sister mine, Paula was right this is utterly utterly perfect. You have outdone yourself here. Really excellent work, and yes love I agree.
I will too survive. More than that I shall dance in the flames again, and you will too.
