1901 and Alone, Ten to those who have followed the series, thank you for reading. The main characters were never named…they could have been…your family. ~*~ she had come by wagon and not by whim jarred spine, teeth clenched against fear smile frozen but will resolved the wind seemed to come from all direction, whipping, screeching, crying alive and slowly, slowly, the wind seeped into her soul, lifting her, an energy sparking within, she had felt her babe kick, tired was she of the long journey only moments ago, now invigorated by the kick, revitalized by the wind unexpectedly, she knew not only was she and he to be the country’s future, she was carrying future within her just as suddenly, an urge stronger than any she had ever realized before a desire birthing with fire within her soul developing, and in the wink of an eye, she took in all before her…. the creaking rock of the wagon, the heat of the sun through the wave of cool wind, the grasses on either side of the wagon’s trail, waving fresh growth and pungent scent, sparked with pinks, blues and yellows of native flowers scenting the wind the hawk’s sudden cry… suddenly, her life became a destiny; she looked at her fine hands, thin and pink, Dresden in design by birth realizing they were going to be in control of her future in many ways in soothing a man caring for children making meals and baking bread in laundry and mending opening bibles and closing eyelids making beds and folding sheets sowing grain and reaping His harvest growing flowers tempering natures, building fires of all kinds and noting life…. her hands would become her lifeline to her soul the realization of her destiny took but a moment before life kicked again and she came back to the moment of the day the seed was set she did not know she was a pioneer, but with will resolved, determination iced in that year and summer of ‘68 she faced the wind ~*~ I had not thought to come so soon again to Highland, not to bury a second husband in the purpling of my life, I am but 50, old to some, but why, why does my soul sing like it is still 18? Why does my mind go against all that my body tells it I am old! old! I am young! young! I still have much to learn, and much to share! it is the beginning of a whole new century, and they who said I would not make it, even those that thought I would, are no longer here with me to see the triumph! why! must I see this on, alone! No! No! no….I am not alone. My children will come to visit, they will bring their children, I will feed them and house them, love them with laughter and tears something tells me, wait, listen it’s on the wind…I will grow quite old and live to tell of days long gone, the feelings… yes, the day I first came, I remember now… I remember… where is my paper, my pen, my ink? I must write… they must know… the wind is calling…. and destiny awaits… Karilea |

"and noting life…. her hands would become her lifeline to her soul" I have to say my dear poet friend, that your hands are my lifeline to your soul. From the tip of your pen I appreciate the wonderful narrative visons that flow from your heart and soul! This is no exception......it's excellent!!! |

Karilea, Such a nice ending to such a wonderful story. I've so enjoyed the long journey through this woman's eyes and words. Just marvelous! Thank you Michael Proust- |

...and thus the series of a life closed...but only true poets know that nothing ever really ends...for we all leave something of ourselves, somewhere, sometime... a poet? He or she purposely leaves something behind, just as an artist of paint, or song, might... and we can only hope, that someone will pick up the book.... leaf through the pages.... read.... and have their heart, soul or mind.... touched.... just a bit. Thank you ALL. Karilea |
