Out of Our History Virginia Salter scars and stars dot our pasts accomplishments, deeds, both the good and sad kind influence and fashion the state of our minds some easily seen, evidenced right on our skin others give flourish or chisel the shape of our grin the way we see others, the way that we’re seen might be played out by visiting our history’s scene the manner in which our tongue finds its speech is gained in the lessons our life’s bent could teach the texture of heart is made tender with love not just the receiving, but the kind we’re made of the touch we possess, its gentle caress is earned in the method we handle duress the source of our being, its candid response can mold us and free us from regretful haunts the strength that we gain in our living of days can empower and gild us for compassionate ways yes, out of our history, the way that it’s spent gives rise to the being we daily present © July 3, 2001 |
