Resigned to this life
where I don't belong
held within the heart of
a man I know is wrong

How long can I keep this
passion alive in me
without a word of love
from a man who isn't free

If I leave would it be better
would my heart begin to heal
how long would it take me
to find a love that's real

This may be the last time
I write a poem for you
there isn't much left to say
and so much less to do

Oh Sharon ... there is so much written within these lines. You've captured an ache that is so very powerful, excellent and emotive piece.

Best wishes,
/Kit

*sigh* ...
why ask why...
tis the curse of the pretty blue flame...
bittersweet rhyme of the heart PDV.
only we can set ourselves free...
seems we're always searching for the key.

i wish i could say i didn't understand  it......
painful lines...... oh geez and i actually can say "i don't understand it" but that has nothing to do with your poem... nothing left i can say except to say, as always, your writing is full of  well written human emotion.... well said

Oh brother do I feel that pain!  The emotions you wrote I am sure many can relate to, and speaking from experience, lots of it, I can tell you being held in bondage of a one-sided love, is worse than no love at all!  The bad news is...it hurts to give up what you never had in the first place, but the good news is...it comes soon to people that ARE capable of loving, and they are loved for who and what they are. Happy hunting to anyone who has the courage to seek!   Great write PdV

there is not a reason to try, if you can not receive a word of love, time to break the plate and move ahead with healing..not to love is not to live..very heartbreaking read, dear Poet..Walk, and live large...most gentle smile

PDV-

very emotional write. there is a depth
to your writing here that has left me
actually speechless. i suppose part of
that has to do with i could relate to
this somewhat, unfortunately. its a hard
position you are in, but you are making
the right move. being involved w/ someone
who isn't free and doesn't show you any
kind of love...is no way to live. so as the
others have said, move on sweetie...here's
to healing and love again. i wish you the
best. take care.

"If I leave would it be better.
How long would it take to find a love that's real."
This says a lot for why many of us stay in the wrong relationships...lack of better opportunities, a hope that they will eventually come around, or a fear that we will not find someone new to care for...and the list goes on...James

Sad, yes... then of course, we usually can't begin a new chapter until we've resigned ourselves to completing the one we're reading... a fact of life... and you've said it well...

"Resigned to this life", sometimes we don't have a choice. Love is very complicated. Thanks for sharing.

You'd heal, but I'd take time...lots and lots of time.  This one aches, Sharon.

You've titled this one perfectly... it aches with the sad acceptance that what is to be isn't what was wanted.

How long can I keep this
passion alive in me
without a word of love
from a man who isn't free

And even if he was free and withheld the words/feelings, the ache would exist... along with a whole heap more "why"s!   Great work, PDV!!!
