Rewrite: Hero’s and Old Gray Mares My hero’s have turned from the daring dare To the constant of the old gray mare From the thrill of a moments glory To the dull of a stable story From the burst of light of a novas’ flare To the ever burning candle there To the constant of a working back That has pulled its load and cleared the track. That has faced the weary and the dreary And never stopped when things got leery. That has never flown on butterfly wings But kept a string on possible things. I cannot change the rules that are there But I have forgone the worship of dare It burns but a while this light of a spark But the old gray mare burns steady the dark. I grant you the thrill of the serge of dare But nothing dares dare like the old gray mare. |

Could be an ode to the working class. As a former Pittsburgher that's how I read it. Or a tribute to a less than flashy but faithful wife. Thanks |

Seymour~ A charming read your quill of bleed Quite the tale of heroes steady off across a meadow fair the old gray mare stands ready Gallop of a memory across a trail or two 'nothing dares dare like the old gray mare' is certainly going to do ! You shine ! *Hugs* ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ |

I really liked this. "The old grey mare sure and steady No flash in the pan alway there, always ready" who could ask for anything more? |
