Between a laugh and a tear...

Dedicated to the memory of

Mr Roy Longmore (1884 - 2001)

…and to all the ANZACS

Eighty-four years, carried the scars
Eighty-four years, a journey too far
Memories carried, relived every morn
Cold stoney beach, so many souls left forlorn

Knee deep in battle, mud, blood, and gore
Tested the very metal, a vision of man to abhor
Sun sets low on bloodied sands of foreign shore
Legends born, heroes and villains, Aussie folklore

Naught heard a cry of anger, unassuming to the end
What now of the ANZACS, can we really make amends?
Long time now not forgotten, seen too many setting suns
But now Roy's passed on, and there is but one!

Eagle, my friend, this was a very nice tribute.  History can be so fascinating if we take a few moments to stop and look back.  Great write!

While war is hell and those who served will be the first to admit this, the heroes who had their very hands bloodied are slowly leaving us replaced by the button pushers who view their wrought destruction on unrealistic videos. The stories of the gory glories of the men of conficts past need to be penned as a lesson that will last. Thanks.
