Hunting season
Begins again
The deer are in rut
It’s a time for men

Packing their bags
And cleaning their guns
Heading for camp
Where they’ll have some fun

Early mornings
Biting cold
Dressing quickly
By the stove

A walk through the woods
In the pre-dawn hour
Tripping and sweating
You now, need a shower

You get to where
You want to set
Your heart is pounding
What, did you forget?

You reach in your pocket
For a stick of gum
And suddenly remember
You didn’t load the gun

You hunt for the bullets
Oh where could they be?
They must have come out
When you tripped on that tree

The sun comes up
The woods come alive
My God, There’s a Buck!
WAIT--THREE--FOUR--FIVE!

Now wouldn’t you know it
It’s opening morn
Five deer stand before you
And they all have horns

So you go back to camp
And hope to sneak in
Pick up more bullets
And begin again

Not a soul will you tell
What happened today
When they ask what you saw
“NOT A THING!” you’ll say

Well the hunter had a bloodless day and beauty trod along it's way, wending where some others may in shelless sight enjoy death's stay.

"Oh what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to decieve"

This fills me with so much glee I can't stand it!  I have enjoyed elk meat, but I'm on the side of the deer, too!  I'm mostly NOT on the side of the 'trophy hunters' so this poem is highly entertaining.

Most of the women I know find great humor in this there are a few men who don't though. It's actually based in a little bit of reality. It's happpened to a couple of people I know.

it was love that first drew me,
it is love that will keep me here...
now I see love burning brightly
when everything else is unclear...
