Dawn breaks rank
from dreams.
Light invades night.
Reveals a lone figure
struggling to rise,
from what moments before
was immersion
in warm baths of passion,
effortless movement
through musically mirthed
peaceful perfection.

Stand!
Stand and fight dreamer.
First gravity's lead weight,
then the thickening air's
resistance to you and time's passage.

Chased the dreamer is
by the mornings televised (bad) news
out the door,
hurdling the logged obstruction
of the (bad) newspaper,
towards the sedan's nattering
radio's (bad) news.

Coffee braced,
the reluctant riser
aims the armor
towards the targeted task.
Hoping to hold his mouth right,
just long enough,
to return to the peace
of his dreams.

Dreams of another
yet faceless
co-dreamer who
willingly accompanies him
through the battle of light,
drawing dreams
around them permanently as
sun block for their souls.

I hate waking up!  I never look at the news, read a paper, listen to awful things, and therefore I have a somewhat sunny outlook on life!  I feel if the world is going to crash, I will know it!  Nice work on this Richard. Hope your day goes better than this chaos written!

Excellent piece.  Begins like a battlefield scenario.  Ends with UV protection

Thank you Seymour, Mysteria, Interloper, SEA, Sven, Zinsser, Temptress, Lone Wolf and Titia. I imagine true poets would appreciate a world of dreams, away from the mundane daily existence which too many of us are forced by circumstances and responsibilities. I too no longer spend what little free time available vegging in front of the tube or fretting over the newspaper, and while driving listen to classical music which ordinarily won't interrupt the daydreams in which I hide. In the autumn of my life I seem to sleep less but conversely have less time doing what I enjoy most, reading books and your words and modestly submitting my own. Again I thank you for your encouragement.
