By the sea

Two Hands

I open hands
and eye the palms,
so amazingly strong.

Two hands that draw,
that sculpt and paint
for beauty’s sake,
that planted crops,
hold newborn babies,
stroke a purring cat.

Two hands that draw
a woman close
to cuddle,
wipe tears,
or bring her to
passion’s scent.

Two hands
that built a playhouse
for my son,
paged books with him,
fed with bottle and spoon,
changed diapers.

Hands that panned for gold,
picked wildflowers,
that built kites as a child.

Hands that turned raw wood
into furniture and things of art,
that wrap gifts at Christmas.

Hands that spread the ashes
of both mother and father
at the sea when they were gone.

So ordinary are our hands
and what extraordinary things
they are capable of doing.

In all sincerity, I hand you applause....for it is in the hands, that the future is shaped, and dreams reborn....

and in the weaving, the stories told....

it's amazing what the right hands can do. . .

this is excellent Michael, it's a superb poem on something that we know about, but, like Martie said, too often overlook. . .

One hand that wrote this poetry
Whose thoughts came from two eyes that see
The simple, grand, and in between
And write the words the eyes have seen
A mind recalls a life since youth
A spirit opens up the truth
And from two hands with weathered palm
Is sculpted this most splendid psalm
Well done again

So very true.  Beautifully written.
