“Pretend like nothing happened”
I was never good at that game,
but something was different about you
I thought that maybe things changed

You held me in your arms
Your words were said perfectly
Your touch was so soft and incredible
I wished it were reality…

But now I know that it wasn’t you
Just like it wasn’t me last night
Alcohol can skew our feelings
And make things seem wrong or right

It wasn’t you who told me
Those things I wanted to hear
I guess you were just lonely
And you needed someone near

It wasn’t me who cried last night
Over something I knew was wrong
I guess I had just remembered something
…like memories from a song

I know that I was wrong last night
But you were wrong the night before
We both said things we shouldn’t have
(I’m sorry I slammed the door)

Perhaps it wasn’t a good idea
To see each other again
Maybe we’ll get it right this time
Go back and just ‘pretend’…

…like nothing ever happened
This weekend was not real
The feelings we thought we shared
…we didn’t really feel.

Haunting and sad....but better to face the truth of what is not a reality!

A friend hears the song in my heart, and sings it to me when my memory fails.

Oh man! That broke my heart! I don't know what else to say! Very good write and I'm sorry you're hurting.

Oh gosh.. you have no idea how much that hit home with me.. I'm sitting here crying like a little baby just remembering.. that was so beautiful, well-written, mesmorizing, flowing, and just great all-around.

You've managed to bring a very vivid memory back to my silly head with this beautiful write of yours.  Feel your every word with a headful of memories   I was there, right in your shoes.  Absolutely Loved this.  Hope you're doing well.

You responses were awesome, guys, thank you so much for the kind words about this poem.  It's funny how writing about an experience is like taking tylenol...it helps release the pain.

I am going through this myself... It happened last weekend...*sigh*... I wish I could go back and not have those drinks, it could have changed everything. But!- you can't think about what could have been... It happened for a reason. Thanks for writting this; it's going straight into my library...
