My son Travis was born just before Christmas ten pounds of flesh and wise eyes. They would all come and hold him, smile and say "Oh,look, he's so good and he never cries" He started to talk when he was just one using words was a gift that he had. Yet when a cookie or snack broke in half My small little boy got red faced and mad. He went to preschool, proclaimed "I'm so smart!" indeed he was beyond his years. Yet each time it was noisy or crowded or bright he'd scream, and beat fists on his ears. "It's just a stage," "he's just a kid" words of hope turning fear inside out. What kind of Momma would burden the world with menacing words laced with such toxic doubt? When six years had past, the rages appeared with a life and a will of their own. My bright little star, with insight since birth, turned inward, tormented, alone. Now that they know my boy is not "bad," that he's burdened with genes slightly smudged, there is more pride in me as I watch him succeed without knowing yet how to feel judged. What can I wish for what lies ahead? Hope on a path that can't always be paved. I will say to my child, who is not yet nine, "the some of your parts don't equal how you behaved" Until you are are near it, you will never see it, until you live it you will never know it...this is why we must not judge it. What a tender way to describe something awry with a child....smudged.... were all the lines so clean.... and I understand and applaud your efforts....it's not easy, but something tells me, all of you will come out the winners.... |

Decaflame,, Thanks for the feedback. It is true..ther is no such thing as complete cearity in the human condition. ![]() Sunnyone, Thanks so much for the support regarding the poem. ![]() Serenity, Hushed my heart...a lovely sentiment and thank you so much. Janet Marie, Your kind words mean very much and coming from you and the work I have read it is extra kind. ![]() Irish Rose, Maybe it is the Irish Genes that bring about those 10 pounders! All three of mine were 10lbs and over (topping and stopping at 10lbs 4 Oz) ![]() Again, I truly appreciate all of the responses to my poem for my son. It is obviously a issue dear to my heart and soul. Until you are are near it, you will never see it, until you live it you will never know it...this is why we must not judge it. |
