                  “MR. WOODY MAN”

I walked the beaches of Nanoose, on the island,
with a most interesting man I met,
at least he is to me…
He would pick up all of this driftwood, of many shapes,
and he made them into objects,
that in his mind, he would see…

Along by his side was ‘Harvey’, his golden haired friend,
at times they would stop and sit,
                and talk to each other…
But most of the time, they would just walk the bay,
        together with a closeness,
                they had for one another…

They would take the finds they made, to their home,
        a somewhat small trailer,
                that they both shared…
And here he made these things, that came to life,
with his thoughts and his hands,
all different shapes, that he dared…

I’m glad that we met, a most kind hearted soul is he,
        and his very best friend,
                going out, whenever they can…
His name is ‘Dave’, most appropriate to be sure,
but in my eyes, he will always be
this very dear person I named,
                       “Mr. Woody Man”…

Bill, I enjoyed the story-telling aspect of this poem, subtly rhyming with the 3rd and 6th/7th lines.  A no-pretense snapshot of life that made me smile with its honest simplicity.  Thank you.

Bill
I thoroughly enjoyed this piece, I thought it was wonderful.  My late father was a carpenter and he was very good at woodcarving. I remember whenever we were at the beach together he would always look for driftwood.  Thank you for the memories.
Take care......Sue
