Only a toy I soon came to be, Something to amuse when you became free, A mind of my own, I must not possess, Trapped in a web of your sweet caress. Put on the shelf where you wished me to set, Then held with delight, as if we had first met. There was no bonding, there was no sharing, You did as you wanted, leaving me wearing. Words of love, you bandied around, Til finally you wore me into the ground. Now you are gone, breaking my heart, Leaving me waiting for a fresh start. ********************************************** Your smile lifts a dreary day, Your touch says you are here to stay. Soft words caress my weary ear, Your tenderness often brings a tear. I thank whatever fates there be, For bringing your soul here to me. We talk and we chatter about little things, Holding hands, walking, looking at rings. Your smile is like sunshine, warming my heart, We both are so lonely when we are apart.
