I almost always cause
A wreck
When with a straining neck,
I seek to follow flight
Of large predatory birds
In their graceful,
Effortless, wing waved
Passing over what must be
A pathetic observation
Of the curious
Clap trapped never ending hurried
Harried, near hairless,
Careless
Creatures far below.

Hide me
In a darkened corner of a
Hungarian tavern
Where I'll nurse
Th course plum slivovitz
And live (I swear)
On chunks of day old bread.
Just keep the Gypsy violin
Strains of
Gut wrenching passion
Constant till I pass out
In my drabbest grey-black
Wardrobe.

Hide me
In a steamy equatorial
Locale,
Oblivious to the raunch of
The crooked politicians.
Just consider me
A loco yanqui
Whose peppered 3 day beard,
Punctuated with a (good) cigar,
Mutters, lip syncing
Upon review of the
Broken penciled scribblings,
Amusing the locals
In the thatched cantina.
Where a six pack of cerveza
Becomes an eight hour shift,
While the guitarist,
Who knows he is my breath,
Plays on and on.

Hide me
Just inside the window
Of a Parisian sidewalk cafe.
A prop, propped on an ancient wood table.
A basket skirted red wine,
Perhaps fresh bread, fromage.
Where half the visiting
Neighbors can go ahead
And hate me with their
Natural American loathing,
For of them I'll n'er
Feel threatened.
But please do what you must
To keep the one eyed accordianist
Squeezing out what now
Is life.

Hide me
Hide me from the pain
Of the body I now wear
In the space I occupy
In a time I wish I weren't
To a place where perhaps
The eagles, ospreys, hawks,
And peregrine falcons will look and
Agree that that one's genuine.

Bravo!  This was beyond excellent, and thank you for the trip!  These are my favorites of course (*wink* as I kinda know ya!)"
"While the guitarist,
Who knows he is my breath,
Plays on and on."  BUT...you forgot to mention that a very excellent tenor, would be singing to anyone who would listen.  Well done poet sir!

An intensely captivating and intriguing message that embraces the mind in a hallway of mirrors ~ where insight and reflection surround and enchant the imagination.
Standing ovations to this excellent presentation!
Smiles to you, dawn

Irish Rose; A high compliment indeed. Thank you.

Joyce Johnson; I have to agree that the birds have it made and find myself increasingly envious and respectful of them.

Sharon; Yes it's not been easy for a seeming eternity but I know better and more peaceful days await me.

Dawn; I've come to know you as a genuine and kind person. Thank you.
