Please note the date on this one...it's not today

Loose Cannons Create Canyons
Virginia Salter

I must be a manic/depressive
that really must be what I am
I spent the morning euphoric
and now I’m having the bends.

Early hours were so elating,
I spent them walking ‘round town on my dogs
I mean the feet at the end of my legs
not that four legged thing that jogs.

Then during lunch I received a sad note
asking me please to amend
the words that I spoke, meaning only a joke
not really intent to offend.

There was a shell in my salad
and my sink’s clogged again, yet again
my fingers are overly active
they seemed to be driven to sin.

Running off at the fingers
is too like a loose tongue
a cannon with powder to spend
I’m sad and remorseful
for the things I have done
having said that, guess this is the end.

Oh, no, I have lied for I’m carrying on
words I’m recalcitrant to end
like words that have leapt off the tongue and the lips
these will go out when I press send.

So, please, if ye be an acquaintance
or if ye be a true friend,
if I’ve said things that hurt your ego or heart
forgive my loose lips and rein in your ships
then erase my name from the chart.

I've been there myself dear friend..... with these my loose cannons flaring..... thanks for the reminder of how human we all are. Be it written a year ago or right now, your poem is very applicable.

Thanks, all, you are so sweet!  Yes, be it written a year ago or every day, it can always come in handy as a reminder or a warning to myself how powerful words and actions can be and how possibly fragile their targets. See you in the other place, now, I guess.

you know what might be kind of sad, I don't recall in the slightest what prompted this poem, so am I doomed to repeat it?

oh, gosh, I hope not, it's a long poem I know it didn't happen at PIP, cuz I didn't come here until November of 2000
