from my chapbook, STREET SONGS "I'm a mangy ol' critter..." Bill tell me, twinkle in his eye. "Never did no crimes, girlie. Big Ten's the rules I live by." Bill hawks noisily and spits sideways just over the toe of my left shoe. He promises to tell me life's secrets, and the things a man 'oughter' do. His cane leans precariously close to the wheels of an erratic old car. Bill spits again and yells, "Jockstrap! Ya got yer brains in a jar?" As he nods t his personal demons, Bill pulls himself up real staight, and says to me and to his God... "Changin' don't never come too late." Someone told me Bill died in his sleep in his room in a welfare hotel, leaving stories of wisdom like pearls for somebody else to shine and tell. "A woman is like a tea bag, you never know how strong she is until she gets in hot water..." Eleanor Rooevelt |

Firstly, I love your quote, could a finishing line to add to it be ... 'and the more sugar you give them, the sweeter they'll be' - probably just me being corny though . Fantastic poem, I really enjoyed reading it . Many thanks . L.of.L. Tommy .
