Snapping In

It is pain that makes a marksman.
Unhook the strap
From the stock's lower end. Loop it, then,
Around your bicep
And cinch it down so that its length
Is less than the measure of your arm
From finger end to elbow. Next,
Placing the palm of your right hand
Against the butt plate,
Push
Until the relationship made
By a line drawn from your left hand
Forced up under the strap's connection
To the upper stock, and running down
Your arm, then up again, by extension,
To the lower end of the piece
Before reaching back to the start,
Resembles a triangle.
"PUSH!" he screams,
Until thirty six inches of death,
From flash suppressor to shoulder end,
Snaps
Into a space meted out by God
At several inches less.
Thus transformed,
The explosion of the recoil
Rocks you back
Precisely to where it all began,
Cradle fashion.
It is pain that makes a marksman,
Not vision.

Interloper...some kind of discomfort, yes, those first couple days of snapping in.  Bob

Not to mention learning your dope, ruining your boots in the dirt and rocks ... or the dirt adhering to the sweat ... or the DI who tightens the loop until the blood stops running, or being first on the line after a nice, short 3 mile double time ... breathe out and hold and squeeze when you can barely breathe at all!

I can tell by the above responses, Bob, that you've done a succinct job of descriptiveness!
