They signed the papers today, The ones that said they no longer cared, That the last stitch of their patchwork love Had finally come unravelled. All the years spent gathering All the fragments of their life together, Quilted together like Grandmas old comforter, It all comes down to this. Ripped and shredded...this piece his That one hers Each penstroke, a knifeblade cutting the seams Of their patchwork memories. Until all that remains Are tiny scraps of pain Tossed at each other like needles Pricking fingers and drawing blood. They signed the papers today... |
