They're Breaking Dawn by Michael The shadows run as dawn comes forth Night's cloak pulled from the sky The birds on wing in morning song The earth breathes out a sigh Another day in life I have A gift that's given free To be who I have always been Or find the best in me Perhaps today to cause a smile Bring hope to someone's heart Or hold a hand and share a hurt And of their strength be part A canvas blank, I hold the brush It's really up to me To paint this day in loveliness Or just to let it be Perhaps to show my friends I care And how in me they live To share the love I feel for them That they so freely give Much like the dawn, dear children are So fresh and new, the best A ray of hope to shine in them Today this is my quest They're breaking dawn, I'm sunset old The world they soon will own It's up to us show the way For soon they will be grown Like sunrise diamonds on the sea Their youth is to behold It's up to us that all of them Be treasured much like gold Please light their paths and give your heart Show courage never fails That even grownups make mistakes Be wind that fills their sails Proust- |

This is completely beautiful. You've captured the meaning of life wonderfully. I'm saving this for many wonderful reads. Thank you Auguste. "Often the test of courage is not to die but to live" |

Micahel: "A canvas blank, I hold the brush It's really up to me To paint this day in loveliness Or just to let it be" I love this stanza...how often we look but we don't see how many colors we can paint on a day... "They're breaking dawn, I'm sunset old The world they soon will own It's up to us show the way For soon they will be grown" What a lovely phrase, "they're breaking dawn", the whole poem is beautiful and uplifting! |

A canvas blank, I hold the brush It's really up to me To paint this day in loveliness Or just to let it be =============================== Much like the dawn, dear children are So fresh and new, the best A ray of hope to shine in them Today this is my quest They're breaking dawn, I'm sunset old The world they soon will own It's up to us show the way For soon they will be grown Like sunrise diamonds on the sea Their youth is to behold It's up to us that all of them Be treasured much like gold Please light their paths and give your heart Show courage never fails That even grownups make mistakes Be wind that fills their sails =================================== I chose to read this because of the lovely poetic title ... once reading, finding so many wonderful poetic phrases and comparisons.. as well as superb employ of metaphor and imagery. very clever and creative to use nature's gifts to compare and define the innocence and promise of youth. a most enjoyable and impressive read... also impressive was your very well done cadence. All these elements enhanced the lovely message and moral of this write. "They're breaking dawn, I'm sunset old" that is a very cool line. well done poet sir. oh you speak to me in riddles |

Janet, Your comments on my poetry are always more lovely than the poem itself. I sincerely and humbly thank you. Karilea, Thank you for reading this. It was published a couple of months ago and is also a permanent posting on a site for people striken with Neuropathy as a poem chosen to bring some beauty and hope into their lives. Such a great honor that is, too. Take care, my friend. Michael Proust- |
