~*~ Angel In Ponytails ~*~The doorbell rang, and there she stood My little angel, all dressed up in pink and blue. Instead of two wings there were ponytails, Tied with ribbons of the softest of blue too. Suddenly the room was filled with light, Giggles and laughter fluttered in my heart, My little angel was so excited about her day, Well she hardly knew where to start. She told me of her new dancing Debbie doll, And of an accident outside when she fell, That Mommy fixed her “owie” with only one smartie, “Yes thank you, now I’m feeling very well.” She told me her new bedroom had a sink, Her very own water taps that she could run. Daddy had set up her table and chairs, She and her dolly were having so much fun. She told me how big the new house was, So that now playing hide and seek was fun. The dog and her now had many hiding places, “Oh Gramma wait ‘til you see, there are a ton!” She could hardly wait to play hide and seek, Laughing, she said, “Now you will never find me”. So happy, her little face shone; her eyes sparkled, Her giggles tickled me, and filled me heart with glee. We decided we would skip watching a video today, And just sit around and shoot the breeze, This little angel with the blue bobbles, Is so content, and no trouble at all to please. Suddenly she climbed up on my knee, And offered to me, a very gentle kiss, And told me just how much she loved me, But our days in the playground, she did miss. I held back the tears and told her, I could hardly wait to come play hide and seek. The last thing I wanted that child to see, Was her favorite playmate being weak. I told her if she wanted, we could bake cookies now, Some for me with nuts, and chocolate chips for her, We could use her Winnie the Pooh baking set, Let’s go get our aprons on, so we can mix and stir. Well eight hours later the doorbell rang again, Someone also dear to me was standing at my door, He had come to get his angel, dressed in calico blue, My goodness time had flown, could it really already be four? Time to go to the new house, but we had fun I told her, “Don’t worry,” I said, “Gramma will see you again real soon”, I told her not to forget to say her prayers, and remember… “Don’t forget to say goodnight to the stars and the moon!” She didn’t make a fuss, but just slowly walked over to me, And climbed up to sit upon my knee, And said, “You won’t forget to love me will you?”, "And, don’t forget you promised you'd come and visit me.” My heart cracked a little and I chocked back a tear, As at that moment all I could do was just hug that little dear. I held out my arms so wide to show I loved her this much, As I knew that is exactly what she needed to hear. The angel dressed in blue waved goodbye from the car, Oh it melted my heart as her little face looked sad too, We saw each other everyday before they moved, Now things are different, and somehow we both knew. But the love we have for each other, Will never change no matter if we are apart, Because that sweet angel with the ponytails, and me, Will always be connected at the heart. ~*~ To The Love Of My Life - My Granddaughter ~*~ Picture courtesy of ~ ~ http://www.angels-from-above.com/free.htm ~ ~*~ Mysteria ~*~ © Copyright 2001 All Rights Reserved Take your work seriously, but never yourself. ~*~ Dame Margot Fonteyn ~*~ [This message has been edited by Mysteria (edited 04-01-2001).] |

This was so adorable!! The end got me though. Treasure the times you do get with her, Sharon, you'll both remember them forever. Wonderful write. Lone Wolf Poetry should surprise by fine excess...it should strike the reader as a wording of his own highest thoughts and appear almost a remembrance. -J.Keats |

Lone Wolf ~ I am so blessed by this child, that I savour every single second! Thank you. Mabe ~ Where there is love there is no shield to hide behind, and with her, I am defenceless! Thank you. Mother Earth ~ Oh my, sorry to make you cry, but you know something - every time I write of her, my eyes tear up too...and I will ensure this bond is never broken. As Grandparents we get a second chance and I am not blowing it! I get to now use all I learned the first time and do it better. Thank you for your kind words. |

Oh Marge - you old softie you! I am glad my heart shows - it was hidden in the cold for so long, and it her responsible for melting it. Glad you liked it. Just A Woman - how very blessed you are then...as there is not greater love than that of a child, and no bigger responsibility either! Martie - I can not even begin to imagine the poetry you are going to create in November, as this truly is an experience like no other in the "love department". I can't wait for your grandchild now either; you are going to have soooooo much fun! ((Hugs)) Kate - your day too will come and with your quill ~ I can not wait to read of the love you will pen - thank you sweet friend. Irish Rose - Order one! I did! I simply said I wanted to enjoy one before I had a cane, and kept nagging until I got one! [This message has been edited by Mysteria (edited 04-01-2001).] |

Martha: If I can find room around that heart for any more love - well good or me! So glad you liked it. Butterflies_don't_cry: I was one of those mommies that made a ton of mistakes - see that is the beauty of being a Gramma - you have the ideas down pat now, and you get a second chance to try to do it right. I am glad you enjoyed this, and thank you. |
