I Cannot Say Goodbye by Michael I cannot say goodbye to her, this friend I held so very dear, and even as the flowers wilt, I know I cannot shed a tear. For if I do, it might be real, then grief would feast upon my heart. I know that I would surely die, so dare not even let them start. Such loving memories I have. The summer rain upon her face, how her hand fit my own so well. I pray that time will not erase. Contagious always, was her laugh. I smile as I remember it. She'd often flirt and so would I, while we held hands as we would sit. Be damned, that tear that just escaped! That it did fall, I am not sure, but does not mean that she is gone. If but grief had a pill or cure. If you think time can heal such hurt, you tell a lie, to hell with you! She is not buried in this dirt, We've still so many things to do. On dew-soaked earth I kneel and speak, and touch each letter of her name, embrace gray granite, cold and dead, and know I'll never be the same. |

This is stunning---an sadly accurate portrayal of grief. Beautiful but with that undercurrent of anger and frustration that paints the reality of the pain of loss. Exquisite, Michael. |

Oh, Michael~ What a poignantly written piece. I am easily moved to tears with thoughts such as these ... 'We've still so many things to do.' Tender render~ ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ |

Denial, anger, heartbreak, despair... all elements of grief you've portrayed vividly and with excellence. Great poem! |

beautifully written, sometimes when the tears fall the realization sets in. As you clearly wrote. Very sad. |

So bittersweet. I think there were some fantastic moments to savor, and when a new romance begins, you will take all of these memories with you and improve on them, good luck and I loved your wonderful poem. |
