Oysters I never sought out Oysters As food - not a special treat for me But pearls, a prospect that intrigued Could fill me with such glee thus begun my education Hence my youth was spend with these Even before I knew the difference Clams, oysters or mussels - all alike Looking for pearls as if I were a 'fence' not realizing the real treasures held Thank God for maturity, I finally learned Biology, anatomy, the meaning of love Memories washed over me, times I was burned The first touch, the first kiss, thoughts of heaven above then when drawing parallels Finally true intimacy, are there words to express Way beyond consortium, way beyond phrases We seek expressions ways to find higher planes New shells to open, lips parting in phases knowing an oyster does not part easily So -you know now, my oyster, my sweet darling girl My taste buds are enhanced, I'm now insatiable For I've heard your cries, yea I've found the best pearl Showing you all my love, the love's created a pull you broke forth in fluid motion An epicure's dining, a jeweler's great treasure Found only in you, I embrace you with pleasure Such art's education, on my knees take my measure You've taught me so well, I'm gourmand connoisseur could not imagine the range of tastes So take me my darling, are there new ways to love thee New ways to express love I embrace all with glee For each time we embrace, I'm yours to command And with every sweet kiss my will turns to sand I even loved the grit of you If sand is what oysters turn into pearls I'm on the right track for I love them unfurled You're my treasure, my life, my love's yours in total If you ever leave me - the effect would be fatal The first duty of love is to listen. |

I even loved the grit of you---- I LOVE that line! In fact, I love the entire poem...glad I went diving a few pages back--I never would have found this pearl of a poem. Just beautiful! |

Your poem is so beautiful. Hard to believe it started with oysters. |

it is my fate - to always be skirting the edges of "open" propriety - I'm pleased you found this acceptable - |
