- from Merideth Wilson - with apologies Viewing, listening to one of my all-time favorite musicals the other night: The Music Man, a line or two of lyric stood out. Marion (The librarian) is singing a bit of a soliloquy. She sings about the sort of 'someone' she desires. While I agree totally with all she says - for what I want - what I think my someone should want - these words stood in front of the rest: "... More interested in me than in himself, and more interested in us than in me..." We ponder love We, who’ve been burned Sometimes retreating Crawling into our shells Like hermit crabs Peering out Watching others More daring When we get courageous We reach out again To find that someone More interested in 'me' And if we’re wise Holding back Just a mite Looking for the ‘us’ Real love is wonderful I pray it finds us all The first duty of love is to listen. |

BEautiful! I so agree with Sunshine's response, too! Very nice, very much a picture of what people do when burned. I'm letting the others take the risks, now. |

Bill--There is so much, so many...love abounds it seems, but is not always perfect, I think..it's in that imperfection where two people accept each other that love grows most true. I love that musical you speak of...and the thought it brought to you. |

Karilea- I'm a mite embarassed to admit - but I drove from Detroit to NYC out of an overwhelming desire to see and hear 'Music Man' during its 1st Broadway airing - with the original cast. To this day - it is and has remained my all-time favorite amoung a long list of wonderful Broadway shows. I do believe I could excerpt some line(s) from every one of the songs - and "create" (note quotes ) and do what I did above with 'Goodnight My Someone' with EVERY ONE OF THEM from Lida Rose, Japopie, all the way down to Gary Indiana 'nuff Said - thank you all very much. VAS - As long as I've strength to strike the keys and you to reply - I'll keep expressing myself in this wonderful forum - Thank you Martie - It gives me an extra broad smile to know you too appreciate this Musical much as I do - Thank you |
