Many years ago, my husband suffered from severe depressions for quite a long time. I wrote some poems cause that's my way (as many of yours) to deal with sorrow. They were written in Dutch of course, but I tried to translate three of them into English. They don't rhyme anymore and maybe I used some wrong words, but I hope you'll understand them anyway. He's fully recovered by the way and now "we live happely ever after".

First Poem

I feel so lost
when I notice you're disappearing slowly
in the mist of your own world

I feel so sad
when I notice that the distance between us
becomes disproportionately wide

I feel so powerless
when I notice that I'm not capable of
lifting the burden off your shoulders

The only thing I can do
is keep loving you

Depression not only is a disease to those of us who are dying from it, but also for those around us. It is so wonderful to hear that your husband has recovered, it gives hope.

Titia
Your words brought a chill to my spine as I have suffered depression and could relate so much to what you wrote and I could truly sympathise with you and your husband.  I have written some poetry about my dark days of depression and these have helped many others as well as myself.  Thank you for sharing with us what is such a debilatating illness and one that is so misunderstood.
Take care......Sue

And RMW, there was some hesitation, because it was so long ago, but now I'm glad I shared.

Oh, this was so beautiful.. and I am sure there was nothing lost in the translation.. none of it could have been said any better. You must be a very special lady to have such empathy for your husband.  I am sure glad I didn't miss this.. it was really special.
