A year ago today...

Another day I sit and think
about the pain I feel
whenever I am awake
and then I realize that mine
isn't so great.
I didn't lose him
to a failed heart like you,
at least not yet...
my children aren't all pulling me
in  four different directions
making me feel hopeless,
that my life can't be my own
that I will have to be alone
if I want to please them
instead of myself

that I just want it to be
"all over"

That knock on the door yesterday,
I didn't want to answer
as no news is good news to me.
At first I peeked out the blinds
to make sure it wasn't
some religious group
trying to save my soul.
There they were,
two beautiful girls, all grown up
but crying as if they were still
(as I remembered them)
only in their early years.
It had been awhile,
since that wedding and the time
after my dad's death.

Their tears brought mine on
as arms embraced and words flowed
and I knew my pain, today,
would have to be hidden once more
as I rode to the hospital
to be there for them,
the two younger one's
and their mother,
to give them strength
to help them cope
to be the pillar,
that I once was.

Though not a Mother to anyone...
and although very lonely on this special day
I have many memories of those who to me
were special children..from birth to adulthood..

Sometimes I wish....
