My daughter came to me and said
“Daddy! Daddy! I can not sleep!”
“There’s a monster under my bed!”
“And he’s taken all of my sheep!”

Well, rustling monsters will not do
So dad got down on hand and knee
To peek beneath his daughter’s bed
And said, “Monster! Listen to me!”

“If staying here is what you’ll do”
“You can’t be rude, you must be nice”
“No stealing sheep when wee ones sleep
‘To live with us, take my advice.”

There then came back a little voice
Who squeaked the words, “I could not sleep.”
“The lass upstairs makes so much noise”
“I thought I’d try to count some sheep.”

“I did not know the lambs were hers.”
I’ll give them back, I promise so.”
“Oh please kind sir I wish to stay.”
“I really do not want to go.”

At monster’s plea my daughter said,
“It’s OK dad. He can sleep there.”
“I promise to keep the noise down”
“As for the sheep, I’ll even share.”

Now daughter dear and bed monster
Both sleep in the very same berth
A flock of sleepy sheep to count
With ghost dog Wispy at the hearth

-----

…  My house is full of imaginary guests.  Erin the bed monster and his ghost dog Wispy are just two of the locals that live under my six year old’s bed.  My other daughter has Jennifer the bed monster and Sparkle the ghost cat.  There’s also Glynda the House Fairy and Flossy the Tooth Fairy who’s been coming by of late.  Thankfully, I don’t have to feed them all.

A delightful read, Andrew... and you're helping create such great memories it would be worth it if you WERE having to feed the entire crew. *G*
