Be Careful When You Say, "I Love You" Be careful when you say, 'I love you'. These three little words mean so much More than their message often delivers. Be prepared to show your loved one the True meaning by being honestly sincere. Can any one of us say, 'I love you' And then turn away from someone in need? Isn't love all about being compassionate And having the ability to be understanding? Isn't love about offering a tender ear In times of absolute uncertainty? Does saying, 'I love you' always mean I am in love with someone I say this to? Are you able to whisper these words Then become a stranger to another's feelings? The words, 'I love you' are sacred to me. They express so much more than some hear. To say you love someone means you truly care. These words speak of integrity and honor. They paint for us a never-ending rainbow Where at the end we find our pot of gold. When you say you love someone, You're saying you want happiness for them, That you have made their happiness A priority in your life. Above all else you want only their best In a world that sometimes is less than kind. Loving someone totally is an unselfish act. So next time you say the words, 'I love you', Please make sure you know the real meaning. Genuine poetry can communicate before it is understood. |

I have often taught that "love" is not a feeling; rather it is a choice to act in a loving manner regardless of circumstance for those environs will change over the progressive time. To commit to choice responsibly is much more than reiterating, "I love you" as a phrase that may provide a target for lust. Good words herein. "I am not now that which I have been." |

So much truth in this. And nicely written. I have a friend who says, 'Love is a verb.' |

Thank you, JLR, I would have to agree that love is a verb.. Genuine poetry can communicate before it is understood. |

Kate, I love this one. . . it's wonderful. . . and I love the thoughts that you've expressed here. . . ---------------------------------------------------------- To the world, you may only be one person. But to one person, you may be the world. |

Hmmm...I have real trouble with those three little words, always have. I would rather been shown than told' but, if you tell me you better mean it, as those words should have evolved from a bond and a commitment between two individuals. I have no idea but the mere utterance of those words makes me withdraw somewhat. Someone said to me, "I am in like with you", now that I can accept! Oh Lord, I am rambling , sorry - guess you know I loved your poem and the concept, and insight were awesome Kate! |

Thank you all for your kind compliments, it's obvious we all seem to know what we don't like about those words. I believe love is a verb. Thanks again. Kate Blessings Genuine poetry can communicate before it is understood. |

Katherine, I totally agree with your writings. Myself, I have NEVER said those words before. I have written them, or said--"yeah, me too" But NEVER have I said-"I LOVE YOU" Until this past friday.(August 10th 2001). For the very first time in my life, I verbalized the words I love you to my friend--my angel--My soul sister Jane. And for the first time in my life---I believed the words when they were said back to me. When the words are truly said and meant from the heart--they are the most incredible words and feelings in the entire world. |
