In Your Poetic Mind

If I can offer
you my heart
and give you what
strength I have
allow me to

If I can place a
smile upon
your face
then smile
for me

If I can lend a
shoulder
or a
listening ear
open your thoughts to me

In moments
of despair I will offer
hope and comfort,
my friendship to you is sincere

unconditional

and I expect
nothing in return

And that is what true friendship is made of, my friend...nothing in return, nothing ever expected.   I particularly love this one, Lauren, as this is how I treat my friends.  Well done.

I loved this but saw the lack of acceptance some have when we do give freely of ourselves.  I often wonder why - when we offer ourselves unconditionally - do they believe there is a catch?  Hmmmm - wonderful poem.

This is beautiful... a perfect description of unconditional love... which is really the only kind we should be offering, isn't it? *S*

This reminded me of the final scene in the movie "The Tailor of Panama" in which lets just say the tailor had created many problems within his marriage and he ask his wife what she wanted him to do and she said "well the kids need breakfast."
It really touched me deeply...James

Once again, as I read and re-read your poem, I find myself humbled by it. A token of unconditional love - as my mother once said to me, with no strings attached given so freely. I too try to live by this code. LP

Greeneyes - a very powerful and touching poem. And by your last lines, very unselfish. A beauty you have written.
