SALINE

two valleys lie side by side…where wild deer still roam and hide
two rivers, where they verge…Smoky, Saline, run to merge
this is where I live and breathe…this is why I shall not leave
for I’m drawn by the Smoky’s haze…o’er which I often gaze

in the middle of this great land…I’ve come to watch, quietly stand
mid the valleys of great tall grass…where Indian spirits have not passed
where cornflowers are blue as sky…meets turkey foot grown on high
as meadowlarks cheer my roam…this I deem my native home

LA born but small town bred…never knew where belonged my bed
that sense one has to find her own…led me here, no more to roam
to touch the ground, feel the warm…to search the sky, know no harm
to breath the air, pulled in deep…to sort my thoughts, which to keep

where gold rustles ‘neath the sun…where bodies work till all is done
where one is braced by Kansas air…leathered people still stop to care
where cottonwood by river’s bank…gives one shade to give God thanks
as short blue meets tall blue come green…a feeling, a sense, all is serene

two rivers, where they verge…Smoky, Saline, run to merge
fill their banks, then flow on more…follow their way to Missouri’s shore
pass me by, I place leaf’s ship…that shall flow on to Mississip
and on that ship, in sunlight’s gleam…shall forge on, a forgotten dream…

Dear lady...that was simply the most artistic marriage of art and poetry I have read in a long time.  The flower almost looked like a river, where they verge (did you notice that?)hmmm bet you did!  The images were so beautiful I could almost smell the flowers.  No pressure here, I am growing to expect nothing less.

See me here on Missouri's shore ... water flows of legend and lore
I shall wait for leafs drift ... downstream I will receive thy poetic gift.
Two poets souls touch in time ... brought together by love of rhyme.

(you KNOW your format and inner line rhyme made me giddy..right)

Though my soul may sit in darkness,
It will arise in perfect light.
For I have loved the stars too fondly ...
To be fearful of the night.
