On Meeting Hemingway To take a step through times of yore - In search of Hemingway From Sloppy Joe's a leisure stroll - Duval to Whitehead Street Each photo speaks of decades fore - Simplicity the way A tale For Whom the Bell might Toll - Where past and present meet Of families and homespun time - For Old Man and the Sea A tropic paradise so grand - Each morn spawned fine redact There penned much prose 'mongst touch of rhyme - Enscripted brilliantly From suite to loft, once catwalk spanned - His studio intact With sixty felines 'bout the grounds - Cats basking in the sun To Have and Have Not his avow - Now Papa's legacy The essence of bygone abounds - Cavort till day is done Though novel words long silenced now - His message holds the Key It's said that cats live one times nine - This six-toed cat was his For just one moment he was mine - And that's the way it is!!! Waft every crest upon your destined sea Embrace the Wave of Serendipity Lest its elusive arcane ecstasy Refurl with sail for all eternity Nancy [This message has been edited by Nan (edited 04-21-2001).] |

Nice to see you post again Nan... and nice to SEE you again! I love the poem, Hemingway has always been one of my favorites. I like the style you did this in, and i think the different colors go well with it I like the new pic too, what a cute pair you two are! "Glory remains unaware of my neglected dwelling where alone |

a story told, in grand detail a course, now made, complete how I wish I had been you to visit Hemingway, sweet! a trip, adventure, a true flight you winged your way through day and night and now you are most safe at home only thoughts to linger of your roam. Sweet Nan, I do so wish I had been there with you, to touch the cats, to smell the air to see how Hemingway brewed... thank you for this, a lovely discourse of all you saw, and did! now all I ask is, did you take the key that opened all the Vienna lids? |

A step backward in time it certainly is...and a wonderful step it is....Nan, you did it proud. Sunshine, I am happy to report that Nan did indeed taste her very first Vienna sausage! Her comment was, "It's a little weenie!" After assuring myself she was indeed referring to the Vienna sausage I smiled and said yes....not only that, she also tasted her first Pringle...her world may never be the same! |

Thankya, thankya... James - Glad you enjoyed - Papa Ernest certainly love cats - This was only one of a total of sixty-one meandering about the grounds... Angela - Thanks muchly - It's funny, but this started out as a silly poetic ditty to go along with the new pic, and it ended up being a real poem - Perhaps he helped me write it.. Sunshine - Merci... um... I wish you'd been there too... So - did Balladeer get set up perfectly here or what???... PdV - We surely did see the kitty cemetery... and we met a special kitty named Shakespeare... Deer - Vengeance is mine... I have more pics to develop... Stay tuned folks... Sunshine - I'm not sure what came over me - He asked if I wanted a Vienna Sausage and a... um.... I thought for sure it was a Pringle... [This message has been edited by Nan (edited 04-21-2001).] |

I am a hardcore Hemingway fan. To me, he represents the epitome of "American wordsmithing", writing almost entirely from personal experiences as a reporter, soldier, vagabond/artiste, and outdoorsman. His works are classics, as unique and extraordinary as the man himself. But above all, he was one who battled depression, and remained to the very end "a gentleman's gentleman". I thoroughly enjoyed your poem/poems, Nan. The special style befits him. "The rose, like the cactus flower, protects herself with thorns. We however, impale ourselves on their beauty." |

Sy - I hate 'good-bye' anyway - How about a 'till later' hug...Thanks muchly... coyote - I surely appreciate your stopping by - I hope you've had the wonderful opportunity to visit Key West... It's exhilarating... as is Wyoming, btw (standing in those wagon train ruts outside of Fort Laramie is an astounding experience)... |

Like this very much, the way you've presented it as well. AND people are surely extra special when they love cats. I'm reading a delightful book by Cleveland Amory titled: The Cat Who Came for Christmas. In it Cleveland does a chapter on choosing a name for his cat. Through his decision process, he learns about and relates famous and infamous persons who were enamored by cats. Hemingway is mentioned, so we cat people are in good company as well as notorious. |

Hey Kit - thankya so much - and about zipping the Big Mac... You'll see... ethome - It was fun - and don't tell, but you're not supposed to pick up the cats... I only lifted up his front paws though... VAS - Glad you stopped by - and a little notoriety once in awhile doesn't hurt, does it??... |

Thank you for an inside look at Hemingway, and tour of Key West. Are you sure it was the cat with six toes and not our Balladeer? [This message has been edited by inot2B (edited 04-22-2001).] |

The first of this type that I've found, other than the two-sided poem I've posted at /pip/Forum13/HTML/000782.html -- in which you mentioned this thread. Very interesting! And, kind of spooky, the cat theme -- my cat just showed up again after being gone for over a month. I couldn't believe he was still alive. He's doing well, though. I've tried to write a good two-sided poem, but, double-entendre like the one I posted from Rev War period, but...can't do it. Yet. |
