& I might stay
beg me sweetly
or send me away
ask me nicely
to forget the past
beg me, lover
you need only ask
make it more real
then your ire or hate
say it in ways
I'll appreciate
help me to see, though
you're not always fair
that it's me that you need
& that you'll always care
help me forget
how you wanted to break me
and needed to harm me
as much as to take me
I cried for you
in the cold of the night
you withdrew your support
I gave up the fight
though time can't erase
what is already done
nor soothe the pain
of what burns like the sun
Just beg me softly
& maybe I'll stay
perhaps it will send
ugly past things away...

if only for today...

Very well written... it haunts and hurts because we know so many people listen to the begging, believing that this time will be different. Great job!

Corrine, Suthern, & RMW Thank you for both reading and commenting on my poem. I believe that there's always a "bit" of truth in every write, but in this one... it's only the "feelings" behind it.
