I attended the funeral of a man less than a year older than I this morning. He left a widow and a teen-aged daughter. The minister spoke of being at the edge of a canyon, peering into the darkness of the valley of the shadow of death. The following poem was inspired by that message. At the Edge of the Canyon Virginia Salter I stand here with moonlight that only reaches my feet not beyond not into the abyss that abounds at the edge of this canyon- death mourning the loss of you of your voice your face aglow with laughter your tender touch in times of woe the blackness of the abyss most profound in the shadows that engulf it engulf my heart and mind with weariness darkness wonderment fear of the alone times ahead I seek the light more now than ever before in my entire existence I seek I peer into the blackness the emptiness I strain every ounce of sinew to find answers comfort solace should I turn from the depths of the dark back toward the light the True Light will I find it? will I find Him waiting to draw me unto Himself to support me to hold me, will He be there to help me in this loss of you? ©April 18, '01 |

Very nice job. You write well with free verse. *If the only place I can live my dreams is in my sleep, then I'll sleep forever!* |

Yes, we find comfort, solace, and direction in Him and His Word. Live for love. Without love, you don't live. |

Beautifully done, free verse suits you! The "light" is always there, it just gets brighter as you stand at the edge of the canyon. Great job on this, and I hope you are sharing it with the surviving members of the family as it is such a worthy gift. ~*~ I write, therefore I am ~*~ |
