I have no photographs of you.
I remember one day
long ago
taking an entire roll
of nothing but you.
We were in Jenson's Meadow
watching the Monarchs dance
and I snapped one
with a butterfly
perched on your finger
like Mom's favorite budgie.
How shocked and surprised
we were
when it landed
on your inviting hand,
posing just long enough
for you to smile
and me to get the picture.
36 exposures,
capturing microseconds
of your life
(my life)
went into a pocket
and later a desk drawer.
I stupidly lost that roll
before this world
lost you
and now...
I have no photographs of you.
Not
one
single
millisecond
of your life
to hold in my hands,
to trace with my fingers,
to study for endless hours.
I have no photographs of you,
just untouchable
out of focus images
trapped somewhere
behind my closed eyes.

If you really love someone, you have their picture already in your heart. You don't' need anything more, although it would be nice

Was the roll spelt like this to show 2 meanings? 1. that you were taking the role of the person and 2. to show how your life rolled around and you almost became someone else? It is a very inspiring poem and I enjoyed it a great deal!
