Those lights that shine through and around hidden cracks in walls we call our own— believed we knew so well— often seem to glow with a fiery essence, until we peer through, gazing into the guised crevasses of the wall. It is then we discern the lights perceived are not lights at all, but merely veiled hope caped like superman, but lacking his strength. Hope doesn’t stare back, only continues to shine on the other side, and, sometimes, it is so close, so very close, our hands feel the warmth provided against our aging wall. Yet that, belongs to another, and attempts remain futile to receive any we may see, for we all draw our own hope by tasting adversity. It is that strength, that instills within us, the ability to overcome, the power to see what we often misconstrue, placing hope into plain and simple view. I really liked the phrase:veiled hope caped like superman, but lacking his strength. "I am not now that which I have been." |

Beautiful poem, Embers. I loved the line: 'It is that strength, that instills within us, the ability to overcome, the power to see.' Very well done. Kate Genuine poetry can communicate before it is understood. |
